CV checklist
General Notes:
- [ ] Your CV should be no longer than 1 page (it can be longer for С-level or an academic CV)
- [ ] Key sections: name and contact details, work experience, education, additional information (hobbies, certificates, extra activities)
Name and Contact Details:
- [ ] Your name should be the heading of the document (large, centred, bold). The first name goes first, then the surname (unlike in Russian!).
- [ ] Use a professional email address (no more ‘[email protected])
- [ ] Mobile phone number
- [ ] LinkedIn profile URL
- [ ] Region
- [ ] Do not include:
- marital status
- gender
- number of children
A summary text about you:
- [ ] No more than 3-4 lines
- [ ] It is a summary of your CV
- [ ] Include key areas of expertise, skills, domain knowledge
- [ ] Write in key phrases or short and clear sentences, easy to read
‼️ Adapt key areas of expertise and skills to every vacancy you are applying to, especially if you work in several different areas
Work experience:
- [ ] Enter the most recent information first, then work backwards chronologically
- [ ] Mention: company, position, dates of employment (month and year) and 3-5 bullet points with the key results for each job entry
- [ ] Give a brief description of the organisation (location, type of business)
- [ ] In each passage, list the results in order of importance
- [ ] Provide details only about the experience relevant to the position you are applying for, describe unrelated places of work briefly (you can divide it into 2 parts: ‘Relevant Experience’ and ‘Other Experience’)
- [ ] Use one style to describe your experience. Begin the bullet points with active verbs (e.g. manage, report, develop, coordinate): the verb, then the result.
Education:
- [ ] Information on higher education (obligatory): the university name, field of study, degree obtained, GPA score (4.0 scale), relevant coursework (optional)
- [ ] Extra certificates (only if relevant and accepted in the job market)
Additional Information:
- [ ] Hard skills can be included (if it's important for your position, include language proficiency levels, programming languages, etc.)
- [ ] It's important to include hobbies (don't overdo it with the details!). If you have any achievements in sport/creative activities, include them.
- [ ] Extra activities, volunteering (important if your job requirements include leadership/management skills)
- [ ] A link to a personal blog if you have one
- [ ] List any relevant professional association(s) and your membership status (student, associate, full member)
- [ ] If appropriate, state your visa status toward the end of the resume
Formatting:
