We have put together some message templates in one place so you can use them to communicate on LinkedIn. With these templates, you can reach out to recruiters or send them a resume, shoot a message to a hiring manager or CEO, ask questions about the company and make a statement.
Some tips for messaging on LinkedIn:
- Pick an appropriate and compelling subject line which would highlight the purpose of your message.
- Personalize your message/connection request by adding some detail about the company so that it doesn’t seem like a template you send everywhere.
- If the recipient is in some professional groups on Linkedin, join those groups yourself. This will give you some common ground to start a conversation with. Besides, it’s easier to connect to your second circle on LI.
- A good message is concise and to the point. There is no need to introduce yourself at length. Don’t forget to thank them for their time.
- Keep your message a little informal, it’s appropriate to use contractions and a friendly tone of voice. You can use a more formal style if you’re communicating via email rather than LinkedIn DMs, however, informal tone of voice is generally ok for the US tech community.
- Check if there are any specific requests about messages on a recruiter’s profile before clicking the ‘Message’ button.
- Shoot a follow-up message after 1 week if you don’t get a reply. Perhaps they are on vacation / sick leave, or simply lost your message.
